However, in order for this treatment to work, you will have to be very consistent with your application. Be patient – most users only start to notice an improvement in hair regrowth a few months after using the treatment. Most users see results after consistent use for about two months. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that causes hair to fall out in nickel- or quarter-size patches. “Your body’s immune system is attacking the hairs,” Brodell says.

Causes and Symptoms of Crown Hair Loss

This is especially true if you are suffering from male pattern baldness. In these cases, you may ultimately seek a hair transplant if you go completely bald. There are many solutions available for male pattern baldness.

There are some conditions that can affect the shape of the crown of the head in infants. In fact, it’s not uncommon for an infant to have an uneven head shape. For example, one area of the head may appear flatter in comparison to others.

Avoid hairstyles like tight buns and braids that pull on your scalp, potentially causing traction alopecia. The sections below list some of the treatment options available for hair loss. The hairline recedes farther and may start to resemble a “U” shape when viewed from above.

However, there may be a link between male pattern baldness and your father. If your father is bald, you’re twice as likely to have male pattern baldness. Male pattern baldness can affect anyone assigned male at birth. The top of your head, below your hairline and midsection, between your sides, and above the occipital bone is where the crown area is situated. In short, crown thinning is the thinning of hair on the crown region of an individual. In most cases, once a person stops taking the medication, the hair begins to grow back within 3-6 months.

With about 100,000 hairs on your head, that small loss isn’t noticeable. New hair normally replaces the lost hair, but this doesn’t always happen. Effective in over 9/10 men, our hair treatments are clinically proven to help you keep and grow your hair. In fact, when it comes to MPB, you may notice a general reduction in your hair’s density. This will again happen at the top of your head – leaving the back untouched – and may spread from the crown to the hairline.

Some people also have hair regrowth when treatment starts early. Your dermatologist might suggest a hair transplant as an option if you're experiencing thinning or balding in a specific area due to male or female pattern baldness. However, not all hope is lost if you are experiencing scarring hair loss at the crown. Dr. Lee notes that there have been significant advances in stimulating hair growth, including procedures involving PRP, pr platelet-rich plasma. For this treatment, blood is drawn from the patient into proprietary tubes in which the PRP is prepared. "The platelet-rich plasma is then concentrated, and only the PRP is re-injected into the scalp," she says.

If you have noticeable hair loss on the top of your head, dermatologists encourage you to make an appointment today. As tempting as it can be to hide a small area of hair loss, remember that the small area tends to get larger and larger without treatment. Even if you don’t want to treat the hair loss, it’s important to see a board-certified dermatologist if you have patchy hair loss in the center of your head. Occasionally, CCCA is a sign of a medical problem like a thyroid condition. The hair loss could also be a sign that you need more iron or certain vitamins. You may be able to reverse (or grow some hair) if you treat CCCA early before hair follicles develop scars.

If you have symptoms at or around the crown of your head that are concerning, schedule an appointment with a doctor. If you have Crohn’s disease and patches of thinning hair or baldness, talk with your doctor. This article will explore what experts know about the link between Crohn’s disease and hair loss, as well as discuss causes, treatment options, and more. If you’re worried about crown hair loss, talk to your barber or stylist about different haircuts that can hide hair loss. Check out our list of the best and worst haircuts for men who are balding on top.

While more common in Black women, this type of hair loss develops in men and people of all races. A dermatologist is a medical doctor who specializes in treating the skin, hair, and nails. This usually isn't noticeable because new hair is growing in at the same time. Hair loss occurs when new hair doesn't replace the hair that has fallen out. Research indicates that this method may serve as a safe and efficient treatment for hair loss.

By inhibiting that enzyme, Finasteride reduces your DHT levels, meaning that your hair follicles don’t undergo that process of miniaturization. And when you are living life as normal, you may not notice the changing conditions on the back of your head. Importantly, though, DHT doesn’t mean that your bald spot becomes squeaky clean immediately. Rather, your hair thins slowly – and may ultimately connect with a receding hairline to uncover the whole of the top of the head.

Male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) is a type of hair loss that affects people assigned male at birth (AMAB). It causes you to lose hair on the skin covering your head (scalp), and your hair doesn’t grow back. Other signs of male-pattern baldness include thinning hair and a hairline that moves farther back on your head (receding hairline). With treatment, it’s sometimes possible to slow the progression of female pattern balding.

But there are a few things you can do to stop a bald spot from spreading and encourage hair growth in the area. If you have healthy hair on the back or side of your head, a doctor can surgically remove hair strands from those areas and graft them into your scalp in a bare area. It’s another expensive treatment that isn’t generally covered by insurance, but it tends to be a long-lasting solution. Hair is made of a protein called keratin that is produced in hair follicles in the outer layer of skin. As follicles produce new hair cells, old cells are being pushed out through the surface of the skin at the rate of about 6 inches a year. The hair you can see is actually a string of dead keratin cells.

Researchers are still exploring the connections between alopecia areata and Crohn’s disease. Here are some of the connections between hair loss and Crohn’s disease. In one small study from 2015, 33 percent of participants reported hair loss as a symptom of their IBD. People with severe Crohn’s disease often experience symptoms outside their GI tract, too, like inflammation in the joints and skin.

Female pattern baldness is a type of androgenetic alopecia that affects females. Although the condition usually causes hair to become thinner around the crown of the head, it can also cause hair to recede from the temples. You cannot effectively treat CCCA with hair loss treatments that you can buy online or in stores. A dermatologist must prescribe medication to treat this type of hair loss. While treatment for CCCA may not always be able to reverse the disease and regrow hair, treatment can prevent CCCA from destroying more hair follicles.

When to talk with a doctor

So many factors can contribute to hair loss, which makes it difficult to know whether hair loss is due to Crohn’s disease or not. Anecdotally, many people with Crohn’s disease have reported hair loss as a symptom. The 2021 research review mentioned above suggests that hair loss may be more common in people with IBD than in the general population. In fact, a 2021 research review suggests a connection between IBD and alopecia, which is a type of hair loss.

What are the causes of bald spots on the crown?

Without medications or treatment, hair loss due to male pattern baldness is permanent. Hair loss on the crown occurs in the area that is perhaps the most difficult to see. However, this loss is among the earliest signs of male pattern baldness. While there is no change in the sides and front of your head, you may notice thinning and baldness in this area. Especially when using hair styling products, you see that this area starts to change gradually.

How can I prevent male pattern baldness?

If so, you're likely wondering what caused it—and how to prevent and treat hair thinning at the crown moving forward. Many start to notice the early stages of male pattern baldness by their 30s, but they may begin as early as your late teenage years or early 20s. However, male pattern baldness affects people differently based on their ethnic heritage. You’re more likely to have male pattern baldness if you’re white, followed by Afro-Caribbean. You’re less likely to experience male pattern baldness if you’re of Chinese or Japanese descent.

Too-tight looks might result in breakage and hair loss, something called traction alopecia. "If you switch up your style and are gentle on the affected hair, it will likely regrow and recover fully," she says. Minoxidil works by prolonging the hair growth phase which is called the Anagen phase. It will take 3 to 4 months to see a change where you actually will start to notice hair growth.

There are a whole list of reasons and causes of female crown hair loss such as menopause, pregnancy and even vitamin deficiency. The longer a women waits to fix her hair loss the worse it will become and if she waits too long the hair loss can become permanent. So the sooner she can fix it the best possible chance of her not having permanent damage of hair loss.

MPB is caused by the presence of a hormone known as dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, a powerful androgen that is converted from testosterone. While that is part of a natural biological process, this DHT can cause problematic side effects. Your hair follicles, for example, are sensitive to it – and, in its presence, these can shrink, weaken, and stop producing new hair altogether.

A receding hairline may be one of the earliest signs of male pattern baldness. While there is no thinning and loss in the crown area or different areas, the hairline may gradually go backward. At this point, you can compare your old photos with your new ones. When the ringworm fungus affects your scalp, it triggers a distinct hair loss pattern -- itchy, round bald patches. It’s easy to spread by direct contact, so check your family members for symptoms, too. Triggers range from medical conditions -- as many as to stress and lifestyle factors, like what you eat.

Although hormones and baldness are the primary cause of hair loss in men, it’s not always the only cause. Things like stress, medical conditions, skin health, and certain hair practices can all cause your hair to start falling out. Male pattern baldness is a very common condition that is thought to affect around 85% of men at some point in their lives [1]. The bald spots that occur from this develop when the hair in certain parts of your scalp begins to shed – either suddenly or over a longer period of time. Doctors often prescribe oral medications to be used along with topical minoxidil because studies show the combination boosts hair production.

This illustration shows how follicles are harvested for a hair transplant to treat baldness in a technique called follicular unit extraction (FUE). Hair is shaved in an area on the head and then 1 to 4 hairs are removed. Those units and then are implanted into the bald area of the head. The hormones that suppress ovulation could cause your hair to thin. Other drugs linked to hair loss include blood thinners and medicines that treat high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, and depression.

crown hair loss

Alopecia areata is believed to occur when your immune system attacks your hair follicles. It can cause bald patches on the scalp, including on the crown of the head. If you see hair in your comb or shower drain, try not to panic.

Rather than intervening in the hormonal cause of hair loss, this drug improves the health of your hair follicles – by encouraging blood flow to the area. As a result, oxygen and nutrients boost the follicles’ ability to produce hair. "Given its location, the crown is one of the hardest areas to visualize, so hair loss here is often overlooked and can progress for some time before [patients] seek help." Your healthcare provider may use a special tool called a densitometer to examine your scalp. A densitometer measures the thickness of your hair follicles. Many women with crown hair loss are suffering in silence and keep it a secret even with their closest friends and family members.

Individual hairs can become more brittle and wiry across the affected area. Predictably enough, the follicles that are most sensitive to DHT are at the hairline and – you guessed it – at the crown. Those that sit at the side and back of your head are much more resistant to DHT.

How Much Does It Cost To Build A Tiny House?

micro house cost

Most tiny houses don't qualify for standard homeowners insurance and instead must be covered by a mobile/manufactured home or recreational vehicle (RV) policy. A tiny house on wheels costs $30,000 to $70,000+, including the trailer, and offers you the ability to travel with your home. However, before purchasing a tiny home on wheels, consider how you will tow it and where you will park it.

The Tiny Home Itself & Mortgage Payments

You can get preowned tiny houses for less than most new ones at an average cost of $30,000 because they tend to depreciate after they’re built. However, luxury tiny homes or those in pricey areas can still cost up to $180,000. Not all contractors are willing to work on tiny houses, so the ones that do charge more.

Solved! What are Closing Costs?

micro house cost

There are also kit homes available that typically cost less than $10,000. These kits come with blueprints, a customized trailer to build upon and a list of needed supplies. Although this is a great idea for some people, we typically do not recommend any do-it-yourself methods to build your home without some sort of advanced construction experience.

Tiny House Statistics

For many, the DIY route is the only way to create a tiny house that matches the vision they have. Fortunately, you can still cut down on some costs by tackling some projects yourself. Sourcing furniture, appliances, and other interior materials secondhand can cut costs. You may be able to paint, install siding, or lay hardwood floors on your own, depending on your DIY experience and skills. Most tiny home builders spend between $14,050 to $60,000 for just the materials.

Chic Shed Houses That Redefine Backyard Living

Permanent tiny houses that sit on a foundation will require land to build on. Once you’ve decided on a plot of land, work with a land surveyor to determine the property boundaries. Prefab tiny houses can cost anywhere from around $4,000 to $180,000 or more.

Your potential cost of utilities will depend on whether or not you park your tiny home in a community or place it on your own land. Also, depending on where you live, you typically do not have to pay any taxes to park your tiny home. As a quick comparison on price, a quick price to length metric can go a long way - at least for figuring out if the tiny house is priced somewhat competitively or not. Here’s a breakdown of all the average costs of what we put into our Tiny Homes. We also build the stairs at this point which vary quite a bit from house to house. Our stairs are generally very modern and include some sort of recessed step lighting which not only requires the rough wiring to be done but also the detail work where the LED strips tuck into.

Do you want the bare minimum of a bed, bathroom, and cooking apparatus, or a luxury bathtub, chandelier, marble counters, and all the kitchen gadgets you want? Though tiny houses are generally minimalist, you still have flexibility in amenities and decor. You will pay personal property taxes, the same taxes people pay for mobile homes, boats, and other vehicles. However, you will need to find spots to park your home, which may be frustrating. Stationary tiny homes cost an average of $53,250, with the foundation costing $6,835. Permanent tiny houses provide stability, though you must purchase land to build on. If you want to build on land you already own, research local zoning laws carefully to avoid breaking any rules.

Living in a small home can be cost-effective, environmentally friendly, promote a simpler lifestyle, and provide flexibility. However, it may present obstacles such as limited space, potentially reduced resale value, and problems with zoning regulations and building codes. Whether or not it is a wise decision depends on the individual’s lifestyle, preferences, and objectives.

The first was in 2021, and over 90 people applied, Blondieau told Ouest France. After that, the town hopes to select the new homeowner by September and have deeds signed in January 2025. Those interested in applying must include renovation plans and detailed information about financing in their application packages.

Labor makes up 40% to 60% of the total tiny home construction cost and includes some or all of the following specialties. Costs typically fall on the higher end of the average range because most contractors charge minimum project fees or higher rates for small projects. Research zoning laws in your desired area before committing to building a tiny house. Zoning laws vary significantly by city and state, and these restrictions are one of the most challenging aspects tiny house owners encounter. Homeowners who opt to live in a tiny house are choosing a more eco-friendly method of homeownership. Tiny houses require a fraction of the energy needed to heat and cool, and they contain far fewer materials that are not sustainable.

They’ll typically run you around $5,000 which is the cheapest option of all. It’s one of the first questions we’re by clients looking to get into Tiny House living and it’s a great question. Buying tiny house insurance might also be necessary, which can be difficult to acquire. Also, Jamaica Cottage Shop offers affordable kits, starting from $4,900, and takes around 40 hours for two people to assemble. On average, professional builders charge $65-75 per hour, but the rates can go as low as $45 per hour or as high as $85 per hour.

The following table shows the cost ranges for several popular tiny-house brands. The size of the tiny house is a significant factor in calculating the overall cost. No matter what type of house is being constructed, whether it’s conventionally sized or tiny, average costs run about $200 to $400 per square foot.

A custom tiny home may cost over $150,000, while tiny home kits usually cost around $4,000 to $10,000. Custom homes usually require a designer and architect, plus extra time and money for materials and supplies. While some luxury tiny home kits cost more than a simple-custom build, kits are typically less expensive overall.

The national average cost and typical price range reflect standard tiny homes of around 300 to 400 square feet. Houses of this size would likely have decent amenities but won’t be luxurious. You now should have a better idea of the costs and financial considerations that go into buying and owning your tiny house. All things considered, tiny living presents an incredible opportunity for many people to own a home at a fraction of the price of a larger, more traditional home. Tiny home dwellers are a strong and diverse community of people who want to change the status quo and make life an adventure.

47 Small Bathroom Ideas to Make Your Space Feel Bigger

bathroom design ideas for small bathrooms

A slim ladder adds character to a small bathroom while also serving as a place to hang your towels. The wood texture of the ladder in this design by Collected Interiors also lends some warmth. Fun tiling in your shower can make this part of a small bathroom feel particularly special. In this space, a blue quilt-like pattern wows in an otherwise simple design. This small bathroom effortlessly blends minimalism with maximalism.

Go for Light and Airy Colors

"The client loved jewel tones, so I mixed Schumacher’s Queen of Spain wallpaper in the blue colorway with an emerald green mirror, refreshed brass hardware, and lighting," says Patton. Don't feel like you need to stick to the basics with your bathroom flooring. In this design by Dawn Bane Spectrum Design Group, intricately shaped green tiling adds gorgeous contrast against a wood vanity. Sometimes, it’s the smallest spaces in our homes that hold the most potential.

Keep It Crisp and White

Elevate the aesthetic, like interior designer Liz Williams did here, by incorporating playful touches throughout. This small bathroom features gorgeous textured wallpaper that gives the illusion of waves, unexpected splashes of bright green, beautifully framed photographs of fish, and maritime scones. This small bathroom designed by interior designer Maggie Griffin doesn't shy away from texture. The rustic wooden vanity showcases its beautiful natural grain, which is perfectly complemented by a stone sink and chinoiserie wallpaper.

Consider Pink and Gold

Tie everything together with additional black details—including hardware and planters—like in this design by Block Renovation. In this design by Los Angeles-based design firm The Layered House, shiny black tiling in the shower adds texture and high drama. The leopard wallpaper and matte black countertop lean into the moody theme.

If bright colors or artsy details aren't your thing, take your cue from Jeff Streich of Prime Renovations. This black, gray, and white palette has a chic, urban hotel aesthetic. "Take a risk with a saturated paint color or bold wallpaper print."

Consider Oversized Mirrors

He says to get playful with your lighting choices, which makes for a fun experience for you and your guests. When possible, incorporate as much natural light into your small bathroom as possible. This may include installing a new window, widening an existing window, or adding a skylight. You can also increase natural light by using sheer window dressings if any at all.

We spoke to home decorators, designers, architects, and remodeling professionals to get their best advice on how to renovate and decorate a small bathroom. On the one hand, because they are compact, you can save money because you are using fewer materials in the space. On the other hand, small bathrooms can be tinier than you'd prefer and often lack adequate storage—and no one likes being cramped. Whether you’re updating your en suite bathroom, a downstairs powder room, or the bathroom you share with the entire household, here’s how to make a small bathroom work.

Install Custom Recessed Medicine Cabinets

A large bench isn't really feasible in a tiny bathroom, but a tiny bench tucked just outside of the shower offers a place for towels and other necessities to rest while you bathe. It's crucial to leverage every square inch of precious space in small powder rooms. One way to do that is to install a vanity and sink that stretches from wall to wall, as seen in this design by Bethany Adams Interiors. Even if the space technically allows for two sinks, you still might consider just one to allow for more counter space. In this small bathroom design, two faucets flow into one large sink for a creative spin on the standard double sink option. If your budget allows, don't be afraid to splurge on a wow-worthy detail.

Incorporating living plants into your bathroom can help it feel like more of an oasis. To leverage available space, hang plants from the ceiling or tuck them into corners. Wainscotting is especially trendy right now, but this subtle design feature has stood the test of time which makes it a safe bet. This doable DIY quickly elevates a small bathroom—and with very little effort required. In this bathroom by ATX Interior Design, the wainscotting quickly elevates the entire space. As old school as they may seem, medicine cabinets are a bathroom mainstay for a reason.

Whether lightly sprucing up your space or going in for a major overhaul, these small bathroom ideas will certainly ignite your imagination.

Styling a small bathroom is akin to getting dressed in the morning, English says. "You start with the basics, but once you add the scarf, cufflinks, hat, belt, and jewelry, you can take an ordinary concept and make it unique and special by layering in some key elements." Frameless glass shower doors look chic, but they can also create the illusion of a bigger bathroom. "The frameless glass doors were used here to create a further sense of space and remove the sense of a physical divide from the shower to the rest of the bathroom," Switzer says.

Even tiny details can offer quite a bit of impact, as you can see in this small bathroom design by Anastasia Casey. Black tiling, a gorgeous vanity, framed oil painting, and industrial vase with pink roses help bring this space to life. This grownup pink bathroom, designed by Palmieri, features a textured pink wallpaper, a gilded mirror, and crisp white details elsewhere. Small bathrooms and powder rooms provide us with an opportunity to be a little more playful than we might be elsewhere.

Take, for example, the stunning black marble sink seen in this small bathroom project by Unique Kitchens and Baths. "For example, consider wall mounted storage and towels suspended from hooks rather than a traditional, space-consuming towel bar." To make a real statement, hang a mirror that'll make everyone say "wow!" the second they step into your small bathroom. It also creates a sense of seamlessness between the bathroom and showering space. That concept is demonstrated beautifully in this small bathroom design by ATX Interior Design. Similarly, bathrooms can start to look cluttered very quickly when items don't have a place to go.

Though function is their first priority, small powder rooms and bathrooms provide a blank canvas for us to tap into our creative prowess and dabble in self-expression. What’s more, because of their small size, it’s possible to deliver major impact with even the tiniest changes. This pairs beautifully with the glass shower door, chrome faucet, and chrome lighting. "When designing, we wanted to keep the integrity while improving the function," says Cory Rodeheaver of Spectrum Design Group.

The colorful tropical wallpaper does the most work and is tempered with a simple white sink and mirror. Space is especially sparse in half bathrooms, which means a tiny sink may fit the room more organically. This black marble sink is small in stature and helps save space, but it still makes a statement. Medicine cabinets are inherently slim, but you can save even more space by installing as a custom-designed recessed medicine cabinet and mirrors, Rodeheaver says.

"Lighter colors will always make a space appear larger than it is where this bathroom is prominently white, which elongates the space." For a creative solution that doesn't sacrifice on style, consider narrow, vertical lights as pictured here in a design by interior designer Cory Rodeheaver of Spectrum Design Group. Dark floors add both a feeling of warmth and luxuriousness to a small bathroom. They also contrast beautifully with an otherwise crisp white aesthetic.

Unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding, Wilson never attended to plead to the charges and a Louisiana warrant was issued for his arrest. During this time, Wilson was trying to deal with the demands of his brother Danny Wilson, a student at Princeton University who was on medication for his schizophrenia. Danny had a habit of calling James to complain about his treatment by the professors as the medication Danny took did not totally eliminate his paranoia. However, on one occasion, James was desperately trying to study and hung up on Danny.

The term Hilson has been coined to describe those who support a romantic relationship between the two, and in the episodes Hunting, The Tyrant and The Down Low they have been mistaken for a gay couple. This same misunderstanding has also been explored in modern interpretations of Sherlock Holmes, particularly the 2010 production "Sherlock" set in 21st century Great Britain where people often mistake Holmes and Watson for a gay couple. Wilson also occasionally gets petty, such as with germs and keeping food safe, and with keeping his furniture clean. In the Season 6 episode, Open and Shut, this proves to be a challenge with his attempt to get back together with Sam.

When the 11,100-square-foot house initially went on the market, the couple also listed a land-only property, which sold for $9.75 million in 2022 to a different buyer. The lot had a basketball and pickleball court with 110 feet of lakefront property. On March 4, 1921, Woodrow and Edith Wilson moved out of the White House and into their new home – just a mile and a half away – at 2340 S Street, N.W. Edith called the mansion home until her passing in 1961, at which time she bequeathed the house and its furnishings to the National Trust for Historic Preservation to serve as a monument to President Wilson. An accurate and full accounting of the Wilson Era reveals the systemic injustices we continue to confront to this day. At the same time, understanding Wilson’s leading role in defining and leading a new dawn in 20th-century international relations is vital to rethinking those dynamics in the 21st century.

As Wilson's health deteriorated there were additional nurses who rotated in and out, their imprint on the house remains in our collection of modern medical devices on display. 2100 Mount Royal Terrace was built around 1880 by one of the wealthiest men in Baltimore, J. Kemp Bartlett. Bartlett was a law partner of William Jennings Bryan, Democratic presidential candidate in 1896, 1900, 1904 and 1908. In 1912, Bryan was still the head of the Democratic party but this time decided not to run. That year the Democratic National Convention was held in Baltimore’s 5th Regiment Armory, a few blocks away from his law partner’s house on Mount Royal Terrace.

Character biography

As you explore the beautiful Kalorama neighborhood, learn about the history and residents of thirteen houses designed by the famous architect of the Woodrow Wilson House, Waddy Butler Wood. By the 1920s, just as the Wilson’s moved to S Street, restrictive covenants had institutionalized neighborhood segregation in the capital. These covenants -- private contracts among neighborhood residents barring the sale of homes to African Americans as well as Jews, Catholics, and Asians, limited minority access to improved housing and city resources. The landmark 1926 case, Corrigan v. Buckley, established the legality of these contracts by citing the D.C.’s existing policies segregating schools and recreational facilities. The house at the center of this legal battle was just a few blocks East of the Wilson House on S Street and 17th. The cementing of Jim Crow, bolstered by the Wilson administration’s segregation of the federal government, turned 20th century D.C.

Amber was put on life support, eventually succumbing to the organ damage but not before she said goodbye to Wilson. His relationship with House is turbulent in the short term, but stable in the long term as it is the only relationship in both their lives that actually lasts through difficult times. Wilson genuinely cares for House and is often willing to stick his neck out for his friend, defending House to the hospital board and to his fellow doctors every chance he gets. Most importantly, Wilson assists House in his attempts to recover from his opiate dependence.

House is there for the rehabilitation as well, and Wilson soon regrets his decision when the friend goes back to his new girlfriend instead of his ex-wife. House quickly detoxes from Vicodin, but refuses to deal with his underlying issues.

In the Season 3 episode, Family, House lashes out at Wilson for leaving a major decision up to the parents of a patient, and when asked what he would recommend, he simply tells the parents that it's their decision. Also, in the Season 4 episode, Living The Dream, his girlfriend, Amber Volakis, tells him that the reason that his previous marriages didn't work out was because he did whatever they wanted and he ended up resenting them. In Season 8, Wilson even agrees to undergo debilitating chemotherapy in order to extend his lifetime for House's sake, despite not wanting the treatment for himself. Wilson constantly enables House, including drug abuse and rude behavior, but on occasion stands up to him, usually for his own good, such as refusing to help him escape the psych ward in "Broken," or refusing to take the fall for a vandalism charge in Season 8. Wilson is a good-natured person who genuinely cares about his patients and just about everyone he meets.

While Wilson’s character may seem straightforward on the surface, a closer examination reveals the complexities and depth of his personality. In the episode, House must diagnose Dr. Amber Volakis (Anne Dudek), one of the fellows he eliminated earlier in the season and, most importantly, his best friend Dr. James Wilson's girlfriend. She and House were involved in a bus crash, and she ends up dying from her injuries and complications from a flu medicine she was on. This case isn't only personal because of Amber's connection to Wilson; House feels directly responsible for her death. No longer a world where an idealized doctor has all the answers or a hospital where gurneys race down the hallways, House's focus is on the pharmacological—and the intellectual demands of being a doctor.

According to actor Robert Sean Leonard, he describes Wilson as "the saddest man alive... he's very lonely and a very spooky character", showing that he does suffer from a dark side. In contrast to his own personality and demeanor, Wilson generally finds friends in much darker and more dour people, such as his best friend House or girlfriend Amber. In fact, House and Wilson are so very different from each other, that the close pair of friends can be said to be "polar opposites." This social life issue causes Wilson a great deal of frustration at times.

When House hangs a stethoscope on the doorknob, indicating that he needs “private time,” Wilson is willing to spend hours waiting outside in a bid to respect his friend’s boundaries - only for House to reveal that he was sitting in the apartment alone the whole time. While Wilson is normally a calm, serious person, he does have a humorous and playful side, as well. This especially happens when he is in a good emotional state, and/or when people play pranks with him. In 1921, these included Mr. George Howard, the chauffeur, Mr. Rupple, the night nurse, a laundress once a week and probably a cook for all but the simplest meals.

It received high critical acclaim, and was consistently one of the highest-rated series in the United States. One of the reasons House is so close to Wilson is that it appears it is the one relationship he has that he has no chance of ruining. Wilson, however, is often rightfully frustrated by House's attempts to test the strength of the relationship, such as when House deliberately borrowed increasingly large sums of money for no reason. House also occasionally manipulates, and plays games, to take advantage of and magnify Wilson's faults. In the Season 6 episode, Wilson, he noticed that a Cancer patient, who was in remission, did not brag about his grand kids like usual.

In season 6, episode 1, "Broken," Wilson draws clear boundaries by refusing to assist House in blackmailing the doctor in charge of House's treatment, but remains supportive throughout his recovery. House (also called House, M.D.) is an American medical drama television series that originally ran on the Fox network for eight seasons, from November 16, 2004, to May 21, 2012. Its main character, Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), is an unconventional, misanthropic medical genius who, despite his dependence on pain medication, leads a team of diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (PPTH) in New Jersey. The series' premise originated with Paul Attanasio, while David Shore, who is credited as creator, was primarily responsible for conceiving the title character. He has also demonstrated that he caves in to people's demands too easily and has trouble forming his own opinions.

Thomas James Homes New Home Builder in the Coolest Neighborhoods

The S Street house has been maintained much as it was in 1924, including furniture, art, photographs, state gifts, and the personal effects of President and Mrs. Wilson. Completed in 1916, the Wilson’s new, very modern home and stately gardens were designed in the Georgian Revival style by renowned architect Waddy Butler Wood—who also designed the home next door. Originally built as the private residence for Henry Parker Fairbanks, an executive at the Bigelow Carpet Company, the S Street house combines classic design with then-modern necessities. Along with a marble entryway and grand staircase, Palladian window, book-lined study,  and a solarium overlooking the formal garden, the house also boasts a dumbwaiter and butler’s pantry, a telephone intercom system, and a kitchen stocked with the latest gadgets of the day. A century after Woodrow Wilson left office, his policies and legacy continue to animate our national conversations about American foreign policy and the meanings of progressivism and democracy and to re-analyze the effects of his failures in the area of race relations.

This trait makes Wilson the only person who is willing to be with House on such a close and personal level of friendship. Although he plans to marry her, he finds out during a review of Sam's treatment records that she may have been overexposing terminal cancer patients to radiation in a last ditch effort to save them. Although he is supportive, Sam treats this as evidence that Wilson doesn't trust her and breaks up with him. Wilson is House's constant friend and protector, often deflecting the attacks of their mutual boss Lisa Cuddy and reminding her how important House is both to the hospital and the patients despite his deficiencies. Shortly after graduating from medical school, Wilson decided to take some time off to attend a medical convention in New Orleans, Louisiana before starting his own internship. While he was at the convention, his wife had him served with divorce papers (the first time he knew Sam was dissatisfied with their marriage).

Cast and characters

He has been married and divorced three times (his first wife was Sam Carr, the second wife was Bonnie Wilson, the third Julie Wilson). He has had a relationship with one of his terminally ill patients, and dated one of House's rejected applicants, Amber Volakis until her untimely death. He does seem to suggest to last girlfriend Sam (also his first wife) that he wants a child with her in Season 7, as when she says she should get a puppy, he replies, "Or pregnant." He proposed to her in the following episode, but it resulted in her leaving him. James Evan Wilson was a major character on House from the first season until the end of the series. Upon his death in 1812, Barlow’s widow sold the property but it changed hands many times.

It almost broke House and Wilson’s friendship

He soon learned that Danny had left the university and didn't take his meds, losing all contact with his family. Wilson has ties to both McGill University (he is often seen wearing a sweatshirt from the university) and the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University (he has a Surgical Degree from it in his office). It is reasonable to presume he went to McGill as an undergraduate and Columbia for medical school. He also has a degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he did his specialty training in Oncology.

From minor trespasses to more serious offenses—like House stealing Wilson's prescription pad, which almost landed him in jail—Wilson put ups with them all. This time House's self-destructive behavior led to the death of someone Wilson loved. In his relationship with House, Wilson endures House trying to push his buttons, and he constantly demonstrates how much he cares for the grouchy diagnostician. In season two, episode three, “Skin Deep,” House worries that the procedure that eliminated his leg pain is starting to wear off. Wilson not only helps him get an MRI but offers emotional support through playful banter. Wilson’s playacting at being God clearly comforts to House during a very stressful time.

Wilson becomes annoyed when Sam puts the milk in the door shelf of the refrigerator, saying that it would be colder in the center, thus less likely to become spoiled. Wilson originally tries to ignore his annoyance with Sam not being as cautious as he is, and says nothing to her about it at first. However, House notices and uses it to try to test and sabotage the strength of Wilson's re-emerging relationship with Sam, by off-setting the dishes in the dishwasher so that there's a big bowl on the bottom shelf that blocks the water from getting to the top shelf. Thinking that Sam also did that, and not knowing it was actually House's "testing", Wilson finally asks Sam if she could be more cautious with germs, and also if she could use a coaster with her drinks on his furniture. Sam becomes surprised when he brings up and asks for all of that at once, though eventually becomes glad that, unlike before, Wilson is expressing his annoyances.

On Amber's part, she had deep seated feelings of inadequacy that drove her to demand respect and to excel to get that respect. In Wilson, she found someone who could both respect her and find her attractive and desirable at the same time. Unfortunately, the relationship ended in tragedy when Amber died as a result of kidney failure due to the pills she was taking for the flu. She was transferred to another hospital under the name "Jane Doe" but once House realized Amber was the dying patient, she was sent to PPTH where House and his team tried to save her life with little success.

During the Civil War there was a hospital for smallpox patients on the property which took advantage of the cooling breezes and the good view on the hillside overlooking Washington. The first embassy, Thailand, was built in Kalorama in 1920, and the neighborhood’s “Embassy Row” is now the site of embassies and diplomatic residences, as well as private homes and museums. Apart from the fact that he saves lives, the other thing that redeems House is this relationship, since James is a genuinely good and caring person.

Character biography

With more than 350 homes in annual production and divisions in Southern California, Northern California, the Pacific Northwest, and Arizona, TJH builds design-driven homes in communities within major metro areas where new construction is rare and in demand. Subject to certain restrictions; see your Build Construction Agreement for details. The lakefront property has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a cinema, a dock and a two-story treehouse. Over the next year, the crew held up armored car drivers outside a Bank of America branch in Inglewood, a 99 Cents Only Store on Crenshaw Boulevard and a check-cashing business at the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Adams Boulevard, according to the affidavit.

He confesses he doesn't want to wake up because it doesn't hurt in this in-between world and he doesn't want to live in a world where Wilson hates him. What makes this admission so poignant is that it's one of the first times House really ever acknowledges how much Wilson means to him. Furthermore, House spends most of his life avoiding pain, but that's not an option here. Although he is an oncologist who routinely delivers extremely bad news, the running joke throughout House, M.D. Is that Wilson is the kind of doctor who tells patients they’re dying, and they end up thanking him. He is a charismatic person liked by most, and it is clear throughout the eight seasons that Wilson cares for his patients and the people around him.

Sometime later, Wilson and House are seen in the countryside on motorcycles, Wilson having presumably quit his job to spend his last five months as he wants. He asks House about what they will do when the cancer gets bad, but House simply tells him that "cancer is boring" and they ride off together. They are both big fans of monster trucks (and Wilson once used this as an advantage by claiming he didn't like them that much to throw House off another scent).

35 Bathroom Design Ideas 2024

bathroom design idea

As we opt to spend more time in our homes, kitchens and living rooms are not the only spaces in the house that are getting a lot of attention lately. Bathrooms are transforming from functional rooms that we use only when necessary to more luxurious spaces where we unwind, relax and recharge. Think of your bathroom as your personal spa-like wellness center in your home that you can escape to any time you need. There's something very soothing about a bathroom that's all about clean lines. In this space by Sarah Fultz Interiors, the sconces, vanity, mirrors, and even the vase feel fresh and modern. A black toilet may not be for everyone, but it's definitely an easy way to make a big statement.

Green Envy

The upper walls and ceiling are covered in a flowery Josef Frank wallpaper from Svenskt Tenn. A different angle of the above bathroom shows the shower stall, which is encased in WOW tiles that create a multi-tone, dimensional effect. Sarah Sherman Samuel installed a seat topped with the same Arabescato Corchia stone, which ties the room together.

Vinyl Sheet Flooring

In this bathroom, designer Rydhima Brar added a long, horizontal mirror above a corner sink and the neighboring toilet, which makes the room feel bigger. Start by assessing the available space to ensure it can accommodate essential fixtures like the sink, toilet, bathtub, or shower. Consider the room's natural flow to ensure you have enough clearance for doors to open and provide ample space to move comfortably.

Industrial Shower

You could also spruce up an old roll-top bath – this can be a much cheaper option too if you have a look at the likes of Ebay. Maybe all your bathroom needs to feel new is a good de-clutter and the best way to do this is to invest in practical but stylish smaller storage. Ikea stocks fab small bathroom storage ideas that are designed for these spaces and are really affordable too.

Choose a Fun Paint Color

In the powder room, the 1880s Black Forest carved mirror brings dimension to a wilderness wallpaper by Lee Jofa. Purple grosgrain ribbon (Samuel & Sons) accents the light lavender tones seen in the rose-festooned wallpaper (de Gournay) in Todd Romano’s San Antonio bath. The solid green ceiling treatment is by Gracie, and the vanity is by Urban Archeology.

Warm Neutrals

Highly-veined marble has a traditional feel to it so to give it a fresh vibe, this custom concrete vanity (with its smooth, hardware-less fronts) provides a welcome, solid contrast. A contemporary bathroom utilizes a variety of elements to create a thoroughly of-the-moment space. Clean lines, graphic tile patterns, a mix of angles and curves, and sleek surfaces can all come into play. One great bathroom tile idea is to have plain white tiled walls, and contrast that with rich, exotic-patterned tile on the floor.

Or bring the outside in

The seat is a nice addition that not only makes it easy to relax, but it provides extra storage space. Check out these modern bathroom ideas in a range of sizes, styles, and budgets for inspiration. Interior designer Jessica Risko Smith makes this space feel both peaceful and glam with plenty of gold accents, ranging from the side table beside the tub to the wall sconces hanging above the vanity. We’re all for mixing design eras, so we love the juxtaposition of a modern bathroom in an older home. We do, however, recommend preserving any original details, like moldings or windows, during a bathroom renovation. It might sound counterintuitive, but maintaining some classic original features will make your contemporary bathroom sing.

Go for Saturated Colors

We have sung the praises of vinyl tiles and similar bathroom flooring materials many times before, and we can really really vouch for them because we have tried and tested them ourselves. They are so easy to install yourself, and most will come with instructions to guide you through the process. They can be laid on top of your existing tiles and no one needs to know about the ugly yellowing tiles that lie beneath. It doesn't get more luxurious than having a freestanding tub in the loft.

Evocative of hazy, summer days, and romantic Mediterranean idylls, warming terracotta is a key bathroom trend 2022. In research conducted by the design team at WeThrift, searches for terracotta bathrooms on Pinterest have soared by a whopping 122%. “Warm wood and cool earth tones, as well as varying shades of blue and green—heavily influenced by nature—are all super hot right now,” says Neilson. Sophie has been an interior stylist and journalist for over 22 years and has worked for many of the main interior magazines during that time both in-house and as a freelancer. On the side, as well as being the News Editor of indie magazine, 91, Sophie trained to be a florist in 2019 and launched The Prettiest Posy where she curates beautiful flowers for the modern bride.

Walk-in showers can actually be the best option in a small bathroom. A shower enclosure would just waste space in this diddy room, whereas a walk-in shower creates a seamless feel. The partition is actually a curtain on a moveable rail that can be moved against the wall when the shower isn't in use, so clever and looks gorgeous. We love the simple square design of this black sink from Pure Bathroom Collection. Oh, and we think we might steal that bathroom idea of hanging monochrome prints in a bathroom, too. Think verdant walls, wood-framed mirrors, hanging pendant lights, and bathroom shelving ideas.

You don’t need a lot of room to enjoy them, so they work equally well in small or large spaces. As an added bonus, soaking tubs use less water and fill up quicker than ordinary tubs. Biophilic elements, or those that help us connect to nature, are a huge trend elsewhere in the home, so it’s no surprise that we’re also seeing these colors and design choices pop up in the bathroom space.

If you have a roll-top bath, or even a bath with a panel, painting it can give it a new lease of life. It's also a great way to start a new color scheme in your bathroom – we love the dark bath against the fresh white walls and the pattern of the bath mat and towel (which is Asda, would you believe?). Combining soft accents like the heavy draped shower curtains with soft gray and pink will make for a romantic bathroom look.

"This tub plays double duty as a bench in this luxe shower," designer Sallie J. Lord of GreyHunt Interiors explains. "We love how the luxe gold Brizo Shower suite sets off the black glass herringbone." For his client, who's a passionate gardener, designer Mark D. Sikes looked to dissolve barriers between the indoors and out at this breezy California home. The hand-painted wallpaper (Iksel) in the powder room depicts lively scenes of the seaside. With otherworldly views of the Rocky Mountain seen out every window, it seemed only betting that woodland motifs made their way inside this Big Sky, Montana, condo by decorator Palmer Weiss.

The 922-passenger vessel is the sister ship to Explora I, which debuts in 2023, and will be followed each year by four more ships representing a total investment of Euros 3.5 billion. With a crew to passenger ratio of 1.25 to 1, the ship will provide high levels of personal service as it sails to worldwide destinations.

Explora Journeys has plans to launch five other Explora ships in the next four years. Here’s why I think it will most likely succeed in drawing new cruisers. Explora Journeys’ casual, barefoot style of luxury is appealing to travelers who have in the past been turned off by the more traditional style of luxury cruising. There’s no dress code -- you’re more likely to see passengers in designer resort-wear than a ball gown -- revue-style shows, main dining room or buffet.

This glamorous wake infinity pool wouldn’t be out of place in Bali, Cabo or Mykonos -- though you will likely hear Explora Journeys compare it to a super yacht. The pool is surrounded by plush double day beds sunken into the shallows of the water, with a sultry wake sightline. On our sailing, this exuberant space was well-used by passengers and was a favorite spot onboard for daytime fun and relaxation.

Midship on Lido Deck is the main swimming pool (indoor pool covered with a retractable glass roof) and its sunbathing area. The pool deck is served by the poolside bar Gelateria & Creperie (snacks and beverages) and the All-Day Dining Restaurant (indoor Lido buffet with an aft terrace/outdoor seating). At the stern is the Upper Aft Pool & Lounge (sundeck with open-air bar, 4-seat tables, a swimming pool and sunbathing area with daybeds and padded loungers). With 11 globally-inspired culinary options available, each focused on sourcing from sustainable and local-to-the-port vendors, it is impossible to go hungry. The most notable of which is Anthology, which brings in guest chefs to create a quarterly tasting menu.

It’s difficult to gauge a cruise line’s demographic on one of the first voyages. As well as paying passengers, there are cruise line executives and members of the travel trade onboard. Same-sex couples, families, couples in their 40s and 50s and plenty of the 60+ set, too. It’s one of the few luxury cruise lines that is catering to children, too, and there was a range of young travelers on our sailing, from babies to teens. The outdoor retreat (a row of sun loungers on the side of Deck 5) accessed off the thermal area, isn’t an inviting space. For whatever reason, this spot picks up a lot of wind and it’s shaded, too, making it feel dark and underwhelming, wedged between crew utility areas and the front of the ship.

Described as "Homes at Sea", Explora II has 461 ocean facing suites. They comprise 371 Ocean Terrace and Ocean Grand Terrace Suites, 67 Ocean Penthouses, 27 Ocean Residences and one Owner's Residence. The staterooms range in size from 377 square feet in the Ocean Terrace Suites category to 3,014 square feet for the Owner's Residence, making them among the most spacious in the industry. The spacious Mudroom on Deck 3 enables you to comfortably prepare for your Zodiac excursions, off-ship adventure options and shore landings. The Mudroom is conveniently located adjacent to the two Zodiac embarkation points.

Regent Seven Seas is one of only a few truly all-inclusive cruise lines, and as such, a cruise on Seven Seas Explorer will be virtually hassle-free when it comes to figuring out what costs extra. Cruises also include economy-class airfare for domestic flights and business-class airfare for intercontinental flights for U.S. passengers. At the top of the ship on Deck 14 is the open-air sports court and outdoor fitness area, allowing passengers to get their fitness fix while enjoying the ocean’s breeze. Below, on Deck 12, are two of the ship’s slim and long hot tubs, towards the aft, while the adults-only Helios Pool & Bar lies at the front. The running track loops Deck 12, and rows of sun loungers and a cluster of cabanas are here, too, making it one of the best spots for sunbathing away from the main pools, with typically fewer younger passengers using this space. Spanning 10,440 square feet, the Ocean Wellness area will include indoor and outdoor spa and fitness facilities.

Explora I is an easy-to-navigate ship, with suites located on decks 6 to 10 and most public spaces located on decks 11 to 14 (there is no Deck 13) and on decks 4 and 5. Though Explora Journeys is an all-inclusive cruise line, including drinks, including Moet & Chandon Champagne, Wi-Fi, gratuities and shuttles into port, where necessary, it does not extend to covering any shore excursions or airfare. Pricing, however, is pretty much in line with other luxury cruise lines. What will remain the same is the lingo used by Explora Journeys. And Explora Journeys is definitely not a cruise line, it is a luxury lifestyle brand.
